نبذة عني

My name is Mohamed Hany, and in the context of drawing comics and Japanese manga, negation can be understood as a creative and narrative tool that defines meaning through contrast and denial rather than affirmation. In visual storytelling, negation appears when an artist deliberately removes, obscures, or contradicts expectations to guide the reader’s attention and emotions. This can be seen in the use of negative space, silhouettes, shadows, and minimal backgrounds, where what is not drawn becomes just as important as what is shown.

In manga and comics, negation also functions on a narrative level. A character may be defined by what they refuse to become, the path they reject, or the truth they deny. Visually, this can be expressed through broken panels, erased details, muted tones, or the absence of facial features, all of which communicate internal conflict or emotional distance. Negation helps emphasize tension, mystery, and psychological depth by withholding information instead of presenting it directly.

From a technical perspective, negation allows artists to simplify complex scenes, strengthen composition, and control pacing. By choosing not to overload a panel with detail, the artist gives space for impact, symbolism, and reader interpretation. In this way, negation is not a weakness or lack, but a deliberate artistic decision that shapes meaning, enhances storytelling, and gives comics and manga their powerful visual language.
