I. An Introduction

Ship maintenance is considered a critical function that prevents serious negative effects, which can cause damage, and constitute a severe danger. The maintenance process includes several activities such as underwater hull cleaning, propeller polishing, and sea-chest cleaning.

A shipyard is where ships are built and repaired. These can be yachts, military vessels, cruise liners, or other cargo or passenger ships. Services include ship buildings, maintenance, Engineering, Inspection, Engineering Support Services, and many more.

The complexes of King Fahd in Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam during 2018 provided various maintenance and repair services for 157 ships and marine segments, an increase of 6 ships over the previous year, representing (3%) of what was repaired in that year.

This comes within the framework of the efforts made by the General Authority of Ports "Mawani" towards providing maintenance and repair services for ships, stimulating the private sector to invest in ship repair complexes, in addition to providing all support to raise their performance, efficiency and productivity.

There are many ship repairs companies in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. All companies possess their private space and equipment as well. Each company operates under Saudi Commercial Maritime Law, and conducts business within the bounds of legitimacy. Business activity involves all types of services related to marine works and maritime affairs.

Many shipyards in Saudi Arabia were developed and had their private space and equipment, and each shipyard operates under Saudi Commercial Maritime Law. Our report focuses on the five largest shipyards in the Kingdom, as the rest are mostly just maintenance for small boats.
