OEE is very important indicator for process analysis
OEE stands for Overall Equipment Effectiveness. It's a key performance indicator used in manufacturing and other industrial settings to measure the efficiency and productivity of equipment and processes. OEE provides insights into how well equipment is being utilized by measuring three factors:
Availability:
This measures the percentage of time that equipment is available for production during scheduled production time. It takes into account factors such as downtime due to equipment breakdowns, changeovers, and planned maintenance.
Performance:
This measures the speed at which the equipment is operating compared to its designed or ideal speed. It accounts for factors such as minor stoppages, reduced speed, and idling.
Quality:
This measures the percentage of good quality products produced by the equipment compared to the total output. It considers factors such as defects, rework, and scrap.
Reliability:
Reliability refers to the ability of equipment to perform its intended function without failure over a specific period of time under given conditions. It measures the likelihood that a piece of equipment will operate without experiencing a failure or breakdown. In other words, reliability indicates how dependable and consistent a piece of equipment is in delivering its intended performance. Reliability is typically measured by metrics such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) or Failure Rate.
Utilization:
Utilization, on the other hand, refers to the extent to which equipment is being used or actively engaged in production activities compared to its total available time. It measures the efficiency of equipment usage and the degree to which it is contributing to the overall production output. Utilization takes into account factors such as downtime, setup time, changeovers, and any other periods when the equipment is not actively producing. Utilization is often expressed as a percentage, with higher percentages indicating more efficient use of equipment.
The formula for calculating OEE is:
OEE=Availability × Performance × Quality x Utilization
OEE provides a comprehensive view of process performance, helping organizations identify areas for improvement and optimize their production processes.
