قمت بكتابة هذا المقال باللغة الإنجليزية للتحدُّث عن ظاهرة الإلزام باستعمال الكاميرات التي يمكن وضعها على الملابس الرسمية لمطبقي القانون في أمريكا:
should every police officer in the US be required to wear a body camera?
In 2021 USA mandated body-worn cameras for federal law-enforcement. These cameras are supposed to be working on when police officers are on duty while they’re executing arrest warrants, searching warrants or even when they’re doing their job patrolling the streets, where Confrontations with citizens are more likely to happen. These cameras shouldn’t be turned off unless the police are working undercover or running a sensitive investigation because confidential information might be jeopardized this way.
In order to maintain human rights, body worn cameras are also supposed to be turned off during situations including victims like children, people undressed or even those who don’t like or allow to be filmed.
At the beginning of the project in 2020 in North America and Toronto, there were calls from the people to defund police because this project was estimated to cost at least 35 million dollars, without actual evidence on its importance.
Fox News and CBC News made sure to deliver the news impartially, because that is the main core of media work, but for me as a normal person I would definitely express my opinion based on my beliefs and thoughts, that’s why I would say, I strongly get along with the body-worn cameras for police officers and federal-law enforcement, because it will help a lot to regain the trust that has been broken between the citizens of the USA and the police.
Think about it as someone who’s always under the light and always monitored, he would certainly try to do his best all the time when he’s under this light and this is exactly how these cameras would work.
No more random arrests would be done, no more violation for human rights would be done.
People will feel safe as they know that the police officer isn’t going to misuse the force that he has given against them because he’s being monitored by the camera, and these benefits aren’t going to be only for citizens.
Police officers as well are going to be protected this way, because their job is going to be filmed and when there’s resistance from outlaws, they won’t be able to deny their resistance anymore.
Finally, in my perspective of view, this project might cost a lot of money but I argue with those who don’t believe that it’s going to be useful, because I think its benefits will be worth it, starting with fixing the relationship between the people and the police and ending with protecting both civilians and police officers.
