منطقة صحراء جنوب أفريقيا لديها العديد من القضايا مثل الاضطرابات السياسية التي تؤثر على المجتمع والحكومات أو قضايا في البيئة مثل الجفاف والمجاعة، وكلاهما من الكوارث الطبيعية، التي لا تؤثر فقط على الأرض ولكن أيضا تهدد الأمن الغذائي. تعاني الأرض في المنطقة أيضًا من العديد من المشكلات مثل تآكل التربة وإزالة الغابات والتدهور. ومع ذلك، فإن القضية الرئيسية في منطقة جنوب الصحراء الكبرى هي التصحر عندما تصبح الأراضي القاحلة أو شبه القاحلة في المنطقة أقل إنتاجية واستنزف مواردها إلى أن تصل إلى ظروف شبيهة بالصحراء؛ تدهور الأراضي والجفاف المستمر هو ما يؤدي إلى حدوث عملية تأكل التربة.

The region of Sub-Saharan Africa has many issues like the political unrest that affects society and governments or issue in the environment like droughts and famine, both natural disasters, that not only affect the land but also threaten food security. The land in the region also suffers from many problems like soil erosion, deforestation, and degradation. However, Sub-Saharan’s main issue is desertification which is when the arid or semi-arid lands of the region become less productive and worn down to the that it gets into desert-like conditions; land degradation and constant droughts is what triggers the process of degradation to occur.
