Lafayette Square Painted Ladies

Visiting St. Louis, it’s hard to miss the famous Gateway Arch, designed by Eero Saarinen. But the real architectural draw may be the historic Lafayette Square neighborhood, lined with colorful Victorian row houses known to locals as "the painted ladies." The district is also home to one of the nation’s largest concentrations of French Second Empire architecture.
