Smart Warehouse Permission & Validation Module
Project Overview
Developed a custom Odoo 19 module that provides advanced warehouse access control by assigning responsibility groups to inventory locations.
The module ensures that warehouse transfers can only be confirmed and validated by authorized users according to the configured warehouse structure.
This solution improves inventory security and supports multi-store operations with clear responsibility separation.
The Problem
In the default Odoo Inventory module, any user with inventory permissions can confirm and validate stock transfers.
For companies that operate multiple warehouses or departments, this creates several issues:
Unauthorized stock movements
No separation of responsibilities
Weak internal control
Difficult warehouse auditing
The Solution
Designed and developed a custom access-control module that introduces warehouse responsibility groups.
Each stock location can have its own responsible security group.
The module automatically checks user permissions before allowing:
Transfer Confirmation
Transfer Validation
Administrators always retain full access.
Main Features
Warehouse Responsibility Groups
Each inventory location can be assigned to a specific Odoo Security Group.
Examples:
Raw Material Store
Production Store
Finished Goods Store
Spare Parts Store
Hierarchical Permission Inheritance
If a child location has no assigned group, the module automatically inherits the responsible group from its parent location.
No additional configuration is required.
Confirmation Security
Only users belonging to the responsible group of the Source Location can confirm stock transfers.
Validation Security
Only users belonging to the responsible group of the Destination Location can validate stock transfers.
Administrator Override
System Administrators bypass all restrictions, allowing emergency operations and maintenance.
Scalable Design
Adding new warehouses requires no code changes.
