This project explores how language learning apps can go beyond exercises and move closer to real-life communication.
The project started from a personal observation: despite consistent use of Duolingo, users can make progress in lessons, but still struggle to speak confidently in real situations.
The problem wasn’t the content — it was the experience.
Most interactions focus on selecting the correct answer, not on actually using the language in realistic contexts.
The solution was to introduce “Real Mode”.
A feature designed to simulate real-life conversations, where users speak using their voice in dynamic scenarios powered by AI, as if they’re talking to a real person.
The experience includes:
Real-life situations that require thinking and responding naturally
Voice-based interaction instead of passive selection
Feedback on pronunciation, confidence, and overall performance
Smart Review to target weak points and improve over time
The design focused on:
Bridging the gap between learning and real-world usage
Increasing user confidence in speaking
Creating a more immersive and practical learning experience
Shifting from passive learning to active communication
This project demonstrates how UX design can transform learning from completing exercises into building real skills.
