Complete HVAC System Design for a 500 m² Bank Building – Cooling Load, ESP, Duct Sizing & Fresh Air Calculations
This project represents a full HVAC design for a commercial bank building with a total area of 500 m², including Ground Floor, First Floor, and Roof mechanical layouts. The design covers all engineering calculations and shop drawings required for execution.
Scope of Work:
? 1. Cooling Load Calculations
Full cooling load estimation for all zones (BTU/H & Tons).
Sensible & latent load calculations.
Determining required airflow (CFM) for each room according to ASHRAE.
Selection of suitable units (Hi-Wall Split, Concealed FCU, Package Units).
? 2. Duct Design & Sizing
Designing supply and return air duct systems.
Duct sizing using the friction method.
Static pressure calculation (ESP) including:
Duct friction loss
Fittings loss
Volume damper loss
Supply and return outlet losses
Identifying the critical path for each system.
? 3. Fresh Air Ventilation System
Calculating fresh air requirements for each space based on ASHRAE 62.1.
Providing outdoor air CFM values for all rooms.
Fresh air duct routing and integration with HVAC units.
? 4. Sheet Metal Calculation
Calculation of duct surface area (Width × Height × Length).
Selecting sheet metal thickness according to SMACNA standards.
Determining total duct weight for fabrication and BOQ.
? 5. Mechanical Schedules
Indoor/Outdoor unit schedules including:
Cooling capacity
Sensible load
Airflow (CFM)
ESP
Refrigerant type
Piping sizes
Power requirements
Roof plan showing condensing units distribution.
? 6. Shop Drawings
Ground floor HVAC plan
First floor HVAC plan
Roof equipment plan
Duct routing, refrigerant piping, fresh air ducts
Full coordination with architectural layout
Software Used:
AutoCAD – Excel – ASHRAE Standards – SMACNA Manual
? Summary
This project demonstrates strong engineering skills in HVAC system design, including cooling load analysis, duct sizing, static pressure calculation, fresh air estimation, unit selection, and complete mechanical drafting for a 500 m² commercial building.
