Letter of Intent

Saudi Arabia was my home for most of my childhood, I loved it there, made friends and enjoyed my time, learned a lot of things, and it was almost too perfect. Coming back to my original home, Egypt, I was met with the warmth of the big family, yet something stood out to me: randomness. Entropy.

Trash was to be seen everyday on the street, queues weren't organized, people were sometimes fighting randomly, and it was too much for me. I wanted to do something about it but I was always told "you can't change much" and "deal with it". After that, I was thinking how this lack of organisation happened. Was everything organized then broken? Were there systems before? And I realised that Egypt had a lack of design from the start. That changed my view on things around me. I was often looking at restaurants and thinking of a more efficient way to run them, or seeing how old non-computerised pharmacies were struggling and thinking of solutions, and since then I became interested in systems.

In school, I got the chance to work on research projects on both Climate Science and Waste Management, and through that I learned a lot more about system optimisation. Waste, for example, is a huge problem in Egypt, and I wanted to leave my print on the solution for that issue. I reviewed previous experiences and Germany stood out, so I dove into how Germany managed the issue and what Egypt can learn from the German experience. The biggest issue in Egypt was, unsurprisingly, the system.

I became interested in Computer Engineering because studying that will equip me with the tools I need to build new systems or find solutions for older systems. Through data analysis, optimization and computing, I can build apps that improve waste management and create communities for higher engagement. I want to move what I learned from theory to real life. I'm also enthusiastic about AI and I think there will be a lot of applications possible in developing smarter and more green infrastructure that works optimally.

Turkey will be the ideal place for a thinker to thrive as the community is updated, technology is rapidly moving, and research is developing. I also want to bring my ideas and share them with my Turkish friends, and to also hear their experiences and learn from them and to exchange knowledge.

During my studies, I want to work with professors in Intelligent Systems and Environmental Engineering. I'm excited to participate in research labs and big projects that apply theory to reality. I want to gain the skills I need to make an actual change, unlike what my doubters told me in my childhood. After I graduate, I want to leave my mark in intellegent systems and Computer Engineering and their application in developing countries through applied research and technology development.

My long vision is to use Computer Engineering as a tool to bring structure and efficiency to complex environments.
