'Star' is a flammable gas ball that shines with its own brightness, whereas the 'wandering planets' or the 'moon' shines with the brightness reflected from the sun. The planets shine with a stable brightness, whereas the stars' brightness seems more like it's faltering or dancing. The reason behind this lays back to the materials of the Earth's atmosphere, which gets in the way of the rays coming from the star, and the constant moving air refracts the rays coming from the stars, which makes it look rather dancing.
Why does our sun shine? Because it is a star. However, it's not one of the biggest or brightest stars. Measuring to the rest of the stars, the Sun is considered a medium-luminosity star. There are millions of smaller stars than our sun. Moreover, there are so many stars hundreds of times larger than it , but it seem smaller just due to the distance.
