In Cisco Packet Tracer, the ping command is used to test network connectivity between two devices by sending Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) Echo Request packets to a specific IP address. When a device receives these packets, it replies with Echo Replies if the connection is working.

Using an IP address to ping in Packet Tracer helps you:

Verify that devices are correctly connected and configured (IP address, subnet mask, gateway).

Check whether routing between networks or VLANs is functioning properly.

Troubleshoot broken links, incorrect configurations, or access control lists blocking traffic.

Measure basic response time (latency) between devices in the simulated network.

In short, pinging an IP address in Packet Tracer confirms that two devices can reach each other over the simulated network.
