Gaza Reconstruction Competition
"This project for the Gaza Reconstruction Competition envisions a resilient and human-centered urban intervention composed of two main buildings connected by a closed pedestrian bridge.
The first is an educational building featuring a large covered courtyard that serves as a communal gathering and learning space, encouraging interaction, collaboration, and social engagement. The second is a residential building, designed to provide safe and comfortable housing that responds to the needs of the local community.
For safety and resilience, the project integrates underground shelters equipped with traditional wind catchers (malqaf) to provide natural ventilation and ensure secure spaces during emergencies. The design balances functionality, sustainability, and cultural identity, aiming to restore not only the built environment but also the sense of security, community, and hope."
