I used interactive charts and slicers to allow users to filter by league, team, transfer window, player age, and much more. You can deep dive into the transfer dynamics of your favorite teams or leagues, exploring trends and strategies behind player transfers.
Key Insights:
1. Paid Transfers Dominate:
Paid transfers significantly outnumber free transfers. Interestingly, the proportion of loan and permanent transfers is almost equal, showing a balance in how teams approach acquiring players.
2. Summer Transfer Window Activity:
Teams are far more active in the summer transfer window than in the winter window, with the bulk of transfers happening during the summer. Additionally, there are more transfers within the league than transfers involving teams outside their league, indicating a strong focus on internal talent movement.
3. Serie A Leads in Transfer Volume:
Serie A records the highest number of transfers overall, followed by the Portuguese league. Within individual leagues:
In Serie A (Italy), Genoa has the most transfers.
AS Monaco leads in transfers for Ligue 1 (France).
Granada and Sevilla dominate in La Liga (Spain).
Chelsea is first in the Premier League (England), with Manchester United second.
4. League Transfer Patterns:
In most leagues, there are more internal transfers (within the league) than external ones, with the exception of the Portuguese league, which has more transfers coming from outside the league.
5. Average Player Age:
The average age of transferred players across all leagues is 24 years, indicating that clubs are focusing on acquiring younger talent.
6. 2014 – A Record Transfer Year:
The 2014 season saw the highest number of transfers overall, marking it as a standout year for player movement.
7. Premier League Winter Activity:
While the Premier League is active year-round, it is especially prominent in the winter transfer window, more so than other leagues.
8. Key Positions Transferred:
Center Forwards (CF) and Center Backs (CB) are the most transferred positions, showing teams’ focus on strengthening both attack and defense.
9. Top Nationalities:
Italian players lead the market with the most transfers, followed closely by Spanish players. This highlights the strong demand for talent from these footballing nations.
10. League Import Preferences:
The Portuguese league buys most of its players from Brazil.
La Liga (Spain) sources players mainly from England.
Ligue 1 (France) also buys heavily from England.
The Premier League (England) primarily imports players from Spain.
Serie A (Italy) acquires most of its transfers from England.
