OF the parts of animals some are simple: to wit, all such as divide into parts uniform with themselves, as flesh into flesh; others are composite, such asdivide into parts not uniform with themselves, as, for instance, the hand does not divide into hands nor the face into faces.And of such as these, some are called not parts merely, but limbs or members. Such are those parts that, while entire in themselves, have withinthemselves other diverse parts: as for instance, the head, foot, hand, the arm as a whole, the chest; for these are all in themselves entire parts

من أجزاء الحيوانات، تكون بعضها بسيطة، وهي تلك التي تتقسم إلى أجزاء متماثلة مع ذواتها، كلحم إلى لحم، وتكون الأخرى مركبة، وهي تلك التي لا تنقسم إلى أجزاء متماثلة مع ذواتها، كما أن اليد لا تنقسم إلى أيدي ولا الوجه إلى وجوه. ومن هذه الأجزاء، يُطلق عليها في بعض الأحيان ليس أجزاء فقط، بل أطرافاً أو أعضاء. تكون هذه الأجزاء التي، بينما تكون كاملة في حد ذاتها، تحتوي على أجزاء متنوعة أخرى: مثل الرأس، والقدم، واليد، والذراع بأكمله، والصدر؛ فكل هذه هي في ذواتها أجزاء كاملة.
