Daniel is the name of the storm that caused the devastating floods in eastern Libya in September 2023. The storm, which developed in Greece, brought record-breaking rainfall to the region, causing two dams in the city of Derna to break. The flooding has killed at least 8,000 people and displaced tens of thousands more.

The name Daniel was chosen by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, which names storms in the Mediterranean Sea. The name is derived from the Greek word "Daniil", which means "God is my judge".

The flooding in Libya is a reminder of the dangers of climate change. The storm was made more severe by rising temperatures and sea levels, which caused the dams to overflow. The floods have also exposed the vulnerability of Libya's infrastructure, which is already in a state of disrepair due to years of conflict.

The international community has pledged to help Libya recover from the floods, but the scale of the devastation is immense and it will take years for the country to rebuild.
